Need help claiming CE credits for the 2009 - 2010 Biennium?
PIA VA/DC can help!

Starting with the 2009 - 2010 Biennium, you no longer have to "claim" your CE credits.  The CE Board implemented a new system on 1/1/09 where your CE credits are reported automatically for you (as long as you complete the appropriate paperwork while attending your class).  You no longer have to log into the Prometric or PearsonVue site to actually claim credits.

You are however required to pay a $15 filing fee and it must be paid by 12/31/10.  Follow the detailed instructions below.

  • Log onto the Virginia Insurance Continuing Education Board website.
  • Choose the 5th option on the left - "Pay 2009-2010 $15 CE Filing Fee"
  • Select Virginia from the menu, enter your VA License #, enter your last name and click Continue
  • Select your License Type and Line of Authority and click Continue
  • You may leave the "Select Files to Attach" blank and click Continue (this is not required)
  • A summary of your license should appear with a fee of $15.  Check the "I understand ... " box and click Process  (Note:  for multiple licenses, your fee may vary)
  • Select Credit Card or Electronic Check
  • Complete the required information and click Submit  (Note:  the submission process may take several minutes; please be patient)
  • A receipt should be emailed to the email address you provided

Other Important Information

  • Information regarding the new CE system is due to be mailed to all licensed agents sometime in May (from the Bureau of Insurance and/or Pearson Vue).  This will give you a better understanding of how the process works.
  • The 2009-2010 Virginia Continuing Education Handbook should be available sometime in May, 2009.  (Once it becomes available, a link will be posted on the PIA VA/DC homepage taking you to it so please check back with PIA.)  You can also access this Handbook on the VA BOI website.
  • To look up, at any time, your CE credits, view your CE transcript or to find your VA License #, log onto the Virginia Insurance Continuing Education Board website.
  • Carryover Credits:  You do not have to actually do anything extra to have carryover credits applied to the next biennium.  However, until the Bureau of Insurance and PearsonVue have closed out the 2007 - 2008 biennium, your carryover credits will not appear on your transcript.  You may want to check back at later date to see if your transcript has been updated.
  • Remember, it is YOUR responsibility to keep up with your license status and continuing education.  It is not the responsibility of the BOI or any CE provider.  They are here to assist you but it is your responsibility to get the information you need to maintain your license(s) and CE.
  • PIA VA/DC suggests that you check the Virginia Insurance Continuing Education Board website periodically throughout the 2009 - 2010 biennium to make sure you are current and compliant on your licensing requirements.

If you need further assistance, call the Virginia Bureau of Insurance Licensing Dept. at (804) 371-9631 or contact Carol at PIA (804) 264-2582 or carol@piavadc.com.
